Adisorn's Promising Future
Adisorn (Dok Din) is 13 and in the 8th grade at Sanameng High School. He is studying hard as he wants to go to college to receive his teaching degree. Because of his own learning issues, he wants to be a teacher to help other students with similar issues. His grandparents, Chin and Lek Yaemjareung, want him to earn a good education for his future. His learning disabilities may be connected with his HIV, despite his antiretroviral therapy. The research, although limited, has shown that persons living with HIV have mild to serious neural, cognitive, and behavioral functioning.
Until recently, he lived with his grandparents since his mom died from AIDS when he was around 2 or 3 and his dad asked them to raise him. Sadly, his grandfather was 82 when he passed away a month ago. His grandmother is 79 and is in good health. His grandmother receives 500 baht ($15) monthly from the Thai government to help with any related cost to his health issues. She also receives 700 baht ($22) due to being a senior citizen. Her health costs are covered under the Thai Gold Card. They also receive a small amount of money from their daughter who lives and works in Bangkok. On the weekends, Dok Din makes a little money by helping his aunt sell goods at the nearby market. |
